JRTN invites original research for Volume 1, Issue 1 (2026).
About the Journal
The Journal of Rural and Tropical Nursing (JRTN) is a premier, double-blind peer-reviewed, open-access international journal dedicated to advancing the frontiers of nursing science, healthcare delivery, and public health policy within rural and tropical settings.
The epidemiological landscapes of rural and tropical areas present uniquely complex challenges. These environments are characterized by dynamic, localized interactions between hosts, pathogenic agents, and environmental determinants, which disproportionately affect community health, socioeconomic well-being, and overall human capital.
JRTN operates on the foundational principle that specialized nursing approaches—particularly the integration of clinical practice with agricultural and rural ecosystems (Agronursing)—are paramount to mitigating these health disparities. We are committed to disseminating high-impact research that accelerates the attainment of global health equity and the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
JRTN meticulously curates and publishes a diverse array of high-quality scholarly manuscripts, including comprehensive perspective studies, rigorous systematic and scoping review papers, short communications on emerging issues, clinical pilot projects, detailed program evaluations, and original empirical research utilizing quantitative, qualitative, or mixed-methods designs.
Publication Frequency: JRTN is published biannually, with issues released consistently every March and September.
Editorial Board
The Editorial Board of JRTN comprises distinguished scholars and clinical leaders dedicated to maintaining the highest standards of scientific rigor.

Focus and Scope
JRTN invites researchers, academics, clinical practitioners, and public health strategists to contribute original manuscripts that fall within the following deeply interconnected scopes:
Rural Health Nursing & Agronursing
Addressing healthcare access, occupational hazards in agricultural settings, and the development of specialized nursing interventions for geographically isolated populations.
Tropical Nursing Practice
Evidence-based clinical nursing care, patient education, and community management for endemic, epidemic, and emerging tropical diseases.
Disease Management in Resource-Limited Contexts
The epidemiology, prevention, and longitudinal nursing care for both Communicable Diseases (e.g., Tuberculosis, Malaria, Dengue) and Non-Communicable Diseases (e.g., Hypertension, Diabetes) specifically manifesting in rural/tropical areas.
Maternal, Child, and Family Health
Focused, culturally congruent interventions aimed at reducing maternal/infant mortality, optimizing childhood nutrition, and preventing stunting in remote communities.
Healthcare Technology & Innovation
The design, deployment, and evaluation of telehealth systems, digital health innovations, and novel nursing care delivery models tailored to overcome infrastructural deficits in tropical and rural demographics.
Authors Guidelines
Authors must legally warrant that their submitted manuscript is fully original, has not been published previously (except as an academic thesis or preprint), and is not under concurrent review by any other journal. Submissions must adhere strictly to the word count limits and structural formatting specified in the JRTN Manuscript Template.
Mandatory EQUATOR Network Reporting Guidelines:
To ensure absolute transparency, methodological reproducibility, and the highest standards of international scientific reporting, JRTN strictly mandates that all authors format their methodology and results in accordance with the EQUATOR Network guidelines (https://www.equator-network.org). Authors must upload the completed, study-specific checklist as a mandatory supplementary file:
CONSORT
Randomized Controlled Trials (RCTs) including the flow diagram.
STROBE
Observational Studies (Cohort, case-control, cross-sectional).
PRISMA

Publication Ethics
JRTN strictly enforces the ethical frameworks, core practices, and flowcharts established by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). We maintain an uncompromising stance against academic misconduct, encompassing data fabrication, falsification, coercive citation, and plagiarism.
Ethical Clearance: All empirical research involving human subjects, medical records, or biological samples must explicitly state compliance with the Declaration of Helsinki. The manuscript's methodology section must include the name of the granting Institutional Review Board (IRB) or ethics committee, along with the official Ethical Clearance approval number and date of issuance.
Editorial Roles and Responsibility
The Editor-in-Chief, supported by the Editorial Board, holds the exclusive fiduciary and academic authority to determine manuscript disposition (Acceptance, Revision, or Rejection). These decisions are predicated entirely on intellectual merit, scientific validity, methodological rigor, and alignment with the journal's delineated scope.
Editors are ethically bound to evaluate all manuscripts objectively, maintaining strict neutrality regardless of the authors' race, gender identity, sexual orientation, religious affiliations, ethnic origin, citizenship status, or political philosophies.
Editorial Privacy
The JRTN editorial staff guarantees absolute confidentiality throughout the peer-review lifecycle. Privileged information or ideas obtained through the peer review process must be kept strictly confidential and not used for personal competitive advantage. Information regarding a submitted manuscript will under no circumstances be disclosed to any party other than the corresponding author, designated double-blind peer reviewers, editorial board members, and the publisher's legal representatives.
Privacy Statement
The names, email addresses, institutional affiliations, and ORCID iDs entered into the JRTN Open Journal Systems (OJS) database will be utilized exclusively for the stated academic and administrative purposes of this journal. This data is protected under modern data privacy frameworks and will not be commercialized, mined, distributed, or made accessible to any unauthorized third-party entities or marketing agencies.
Crossmark History
JRTN is a fully integrated participant in the Crossref Crossmark initiative, signaling our permanent commitment to maintaining the integrity, traceability, and accuracy of the published scientific record. By clicking the standardized Crossmark logo embedded on the title page of any published JRTN article, readers will instantly retrieve the document's current metadata status, immediately highlighting any verified post-publication updates, formal errata, corrigenda, or retractions.
Journal History
The Journal of Rural and Tropical Nursing (JRTN) was conceptualized and founded to bridge critical, long-standing knowledge gaps in specialized nursing practices within underserved geographies. Formally established and managed professionally under the legal auspices of PT. Peka Merawat Negeri, the journal is steadfastly dedicated to elevating the global discourse on rural and tropical health.

Open Access Policy
JRTN provides immediate, unconditional Gold Open Access to its entire repository of published content. This policy is deeply rooted in the Budapest Open Access Initiative (BOAI) definition. There are absolutely no paywalls, embargo periods, or subscription barriers for readers, students, or academic institutions globally.
Data Sharing Policy
JRTN strongly endorses the FAIR data principles (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable). Authors are heavily encouraged to deposit the de-identified, underlying raw data of their research in recognized public repositories (e.g., Mendeley Data, Figshare, Zenodo). A formal Data Availability Statement must be included in the manuscript.
Advertising Policy
To maintain absolute editorial independence and preserve aesthetic professionalism, JRTN enforces a strict, permanent non-advertising policy. No commercial advertisements or corporate sponsorships of any kind are permitted.
Peer Review Process
JRTN utilizes a rigorous, strictly controlled Double-Blind Peer Review process. The identities of both the authors and the reviewers are concealed from each other throughout the entire evaluation to eliminate institutional or personal bias.
